And then, one day, you're an adult.

My life went from 0 to ‘adulting’ real quick. Like, speed of lighting quick. Like I blinked and now, all of a sudden, I’m 22 with a full-time job, life insurance and a car loan.

Over the past three months, my life has been a series of “holy crap, I’m an adult” moments.

In January, I started my first full-time job and signed up for my own insurance plans. Talking about life insurance at 21 years old? Can’t say I saw that one coming.

In February, I signed a lease for the first time without needing a guarantor. And then I bought my first couch. Something about buying a couch makes growing up seem a lot more real – realizing how far you’ve come and how far you have yet to go.

In March, I bought my first car. Like I own a car. Still getting used to this one.

No one really prepares you for how much life changes after college. It felt like being pushed out of the nest without yet knowing if my wings were fully developed. And, thankfully, I knew how to fly.

It’s a transition I’m not sure anyone can truly prepare you for. Managing your new income and paying bills is stressful. Adjusting to a new schedule is hard. Not being able to sleep in is the worst. But being independent and having your own money (ACTUAL steady money) rocks.

Humble brag – I’m pretty dang proud of myself. Graduating early (and alone) was scary and being the only one of my friends not enjoying senior spring hasn’t always been fun, but I’ve managed to figure it out on my own. I’ve made this huge life transition – from student to adult – all on my own. And it feels really good. This experience has empowered me in ways I’m just now realizing.

One day, you’re waking up at 10 a.m. to go to class and worrying about what time you should go to Chick-fil-A. And then, one day, you’re an adult. And everything changes. But life is good.
